Dear members of the European Society of Biomechanics,
This July in Vancouver, in the frame of the World Congress of Biomechanics, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of our society. When the current Council honoured me with the invitation to give, during the ceremony, a historical remark on these fifty years of history, I replied by proposing that we take the opportunity, as I prepare my talk, to organise a digital historical archive of the society, which can then be preserved and expanded by the next councillors and volunteers.
Thus, we write to you to ask that you look in your own archive and share with us anything that you feel may mark the history of our scientific society. Did you get pictures of your first ESB congress? Pictures of your old supervisor, who may have been one of the founders, or early councillors of the society? A copy of an early certificate of attendance? Anything can help rebuild a historical archive.
If you think you have anything useful to share, please write to me at marco.viceconti@unibo.it, and we will discuss how to transfer the materials. And for the younger members, if you are willing to volunteer in helping establish such an archive, please contact me; I am sure we will find something for you to help with.
Best wishes
Prof Marco Viceconti
(President ESBiomech 2006-2008)
