Dear ESB members,
If you will attend the WCB26 congress in Vancouver, don’t forget to join our General Assembly (GA), which will take place on Mon. 13 July in the West 211-214 room.
Here is some information and key materials anticipated for the GA:

- The list of new ESB members since the last GA at ESB25 in Zurich is attached: [New Member List]. This list includes 129 new members, comprising 57 active members and 72 student members. A block vote to ratify all these new members will take place during the GA at WCB26 in Vancouver. Please find below the report update on ESB members’ statistics.

Do not forget that this year is particularly special as the European Society of Biomechanics celebrates its 50th anniversary.
To celebrate this milestone, we invite you to join us on Monday, 13 July, for a dedicated ESB programme in West Ballroom A. Throughout the afternoon, we will celebrate the achievements of our community, reflect on the Society’s history, and look ahead to the future of biomechanics.
The programme will include:
- A special 50th Anniversary Lecture by Professor Marco Viceconti, former ESB President, reflecting on five decades of ESB history, achievements, and impact.
- The ESB Awards Ceremony, recognising the outstanding achievements of our members.
- The ESB Debate, returning after its successful introduction last year with an engaging discussion on topics shaping the future of biomechanics.
- The ESB General Assembly, providing updates on the Society’s activities and future plans.
- The ESB 50th Anniversary Celebration, an opportunity for all members to celebrate this important milestone together. If you have registered you will receive your complimentary drink tickets at registration. If you have not registered, you are welcome to join, there will be a cash bar on site.
Throughout the Congress, we also invite you to visit the ESB booth, meet Council members, learn more about the Society, and leave your birthday wishes for ESB as part of our anniversary celebrations.
Do not forget the ESB Council Elections 2026 – Reminder that online voting for the six vacant Council positions is open until 12 July 2026 (17:15 PDT). Members are encouraged to review the candidates’ profiles and cast their vote before the deadline. Election results will be announced at the ESB General Assembly during WCB2026. See more HERE

Membership Data (data from 09/06/2026, not including 20 latest applicants)
In June 2026, the ESB has a total of 1460 regular members, of which 551 are students (38%; -3% as June 2025). The total membership is relatively diverse with 544 women (37%; same proportion as June 2025) and 16 members preferring not to disclose (the same as June 2025). The student body drives the diversity (46% women).

The ESB membership currently shows a healthy geographic distribution, with members from all continents and a presence in 55 countries (85% of members are based in Europe). The largest groups come from Italy, the UK, Switzerland, and Germany, with 243, 218, 118, and 108 members respectively. Together, these four countries account for 47% of our total membership.
The ESB is also honoured to count one member in each of the following countries: Slovakia (Slovak Republic), Croatia, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Bosnia and Herzegowina, Lebanon, Nigeria, Iceland, Reunion, Argentina, Ukraine, Colombia, Brazil.
