Dear Subscriber,
The ESB Council has some open positions, and it is a great opportunity to contribute to the shaping of our society!
Enrico Dall’Ara and Dieter Pahr have both completed their two full terms and, thus, must step down after 8 years of service. Aurélie Carlier has decided to resign after 6 years of service. Bernardo Innocenti, who served on the Council for 4 years, has decided not to stand for re-election. We sincerely thank all of them for their dedicated service and valuable contributions to the ESB.
Marlène Mengoni and Peter Varga have completed their first 4-year term and intend to stand for re-election.
Hence, a total of six Council seats are up for election; the Council invites any regular member in good standing to run for a seat on the Council of our Society. As our Society considers gender equality an important aspect of our community’s life, and women have regularly been in the minority on the Council, we particularly encourage them to stand for these positions. We also welcome applicants who would broaden our diversity, whether related to ethnicity, location, research field, or other characteristics.
Why to apply
As a member of the council, you will take the lead in the activities of one of the committees (https://esbiomech.org/welcome-to-the-european-society-of-biomechanics-esbiomech/council/), contribute to in-person biannual council meetings (usually one in January, at the location of the congress happening 18 months later, and one just before the annual congress), and drive decisions impacting the work of the society.
Being an ESB council member is a great opportunity, both socially and professionally, that more than pays back the effort such serious commitment requires.
Here is an opportunity for you to engage and help to shape the future of ESB, and we very much look forward to receiving your applications for candidature.
How to apply
Those who are interested in standing for an ESB Council position should send their full-length CV, complete the application form, and attach a small picture, all in electronic format, to the Secretary General, secretary.general@esbiomech.org , by the 13th May 2026.
You will receive a notification that we have received your candidature soon after. If you have not received it after one week, please contact us again. Candidates who already have a complete CV and a full publication list available online are encouraged to also provide us with the corresponding links.
Details of the candidates will be posted on the ESB website in the membership area, where they will be available for all members to read. Therefore, the information candidates provide on their application form will be made available to all voting members.
Voting will be conducted through an online electronic process. The electronic ballot will open on 22 June 2026 and will close on 12 July 2026, the day before the next General Assembly. The results will then be prepared for ratification. The candidates receiving the most votes will be elected to serve on the Council and will be announced by the President at the General Assembly of the World Congress of Biomechanics in Vancouver.
Michele Conti (Secretary General of the ESB)
