The Department of Biomedical Engineering. There is an endless demand in modern healthcare for technologies to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of health problems. What we are looking for: We seek to appoint a scientist/engineer who is passionate about research as well as teaching. We are looking for a creative and pro-active team player to establish a complementary research line.

Computational tissue and material mechanics:

Natural systems, where evolution has crafted unique base materials into hierarchical structures with dynamic physical functionalities, can serve as a blueprint to create new materials with biomimetic structure-function properties that can sense, respond to and actuate their environment. Such materials can integrate with natural tissues to create systems that restore adaptive functions lost during disease. This position will utilize computational methods to develop and characterize such systems.

The Department is seeking to appoint a Lecturer to work within the Insigneo Institute for in silico Medicine (Insigneo), an initiative between the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sheffield, and the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. You will also be a member of staff in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

In addition, you will need to demonstrate how you plan to conduct a high quality programme of research, including attracting external funding from a range of sources, publishing working in high quality peer-reviewed journals, attending conferences and building an international profile.

Initially, you will be allocated a lighter than average teaching load (typically just one 10 credit course), and little or no administrative duties to allow you to focus on establishing your research career. Professorship with a Tenure Track Perspective at Charité

Opening of a Professorship with a Tenure Track Perspective at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH):

The candidate is expected to drive biomaterial-based tissue regeneration towards clinical applications and is expected to take an active role in the scientific focus area “Regenerative Therapies -BCRT” and to engage her-/himself in the DFG-funded research group „Regeneration in Aged: Bone healing as a model system to characterize regeneration under compromised conditions” (FOR2165).

The professorship is expected to strengthen the research focus in Biomechanics, Biomaterials und Cell-Therapies in a tight coupling with the Julius-Wolff-Institute and the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery of the Charité.

Charité is intending to fill this position with an outstanding, internationally acknowledged scientist with substantial contributions in Cell-Biomaterial interactions and the biomaterial-driven tissue regeneration with a focus on musculoskeletal tissues.

Candidates should have received a PhD in Engineering or Sciences, a minimum 3-year postdoc and contributed with excellent peer reviewed papers to the scientific field. Experience with R&D in a research-oriented company, specifically in biomedical material development or production would be highly appreciated.

About our team

The Biomedical Engineering theme focuses on highly interdisciplinary and cutting-edge research at the interface between mechanical engineering, material science and bioengineering. We bring together our expertise in micromechanics, tissue engineering, laser tissue interaction, novel optical fibres, computational mechanics, micro/nano manufacturing, thermo-fluid mechanics, and digital design and manufacture to address the challenges in biomedical engineering including cancer diagnostics and therapy, minimally invasive procedures, tissue mechanics, patient-specific modelling, tissue engineering and characterisation.  Applications are welcome from individuals whose core disciplines are in the areas of mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering or are in other relevant engineering domains or applied sciences and can complement our existing strengths

Key duties and responsibilities
