The ESB invites members in good standing to submit proposals for new Working Groups. The deadline for submitting proposals is April 30, 2026.
What is a Working Group?
- A community of active ESB members that promotes and/or advances knowledge in a specific area of research within the field of biomechanics.
- ESB Working Groups provide members with an opportunity to shape emerging research directions, build international collaborations, and increase the visibility of their field within the biomechanics community.
- Working Groups should involve coordinators from at least 3 different countries. All coordinators should be ESB members in good standing.
- Potential activities of a Working Group include but are not limited to: sharing latest developments on a specific topic, proposing standards, identifying challenges, building consensus around complex theoretical, computational and experimental areas, moving towards the regulatory acceptance of biomechanical biomarkers, etc.
- The Working Group should have a specific goal and the activities should be aimed at delivering some clear output within a 2-year period.
- After 2 years, a Working Group can be renewed for another 2-year period pending re-evaluation from the ESB Council.
- The Working Group coordinators will be expected to update the ESB Council of the progresses of the Working Group at least every six months and provide a summary of the activities and achievements of the Working Group at the end of each year.
- The ESB Council reserves the right to dissolve the Working Group after one year if satisfactory progress has not been made
- The Working Group activities should be distinct from ongoing collaborative arrangements, and be recognizable as an independent, ESB-led initiative.
- The ESB Council will support the Working Groups by providing a point of contact in the ESB Council. The ESB Council will also support financially, with a maximum of €5,000 per year.
In case you are interested in submitting a proposal:
- You can find all relevant information, including the proposal template, at the ESB website.
- Prepare a proposal with a team of 3-5 ESB members who will act as coordinators.
- All coordinators should be ESB members in good standing at the submission deadline, and be affiliated with institutions from at least 3 different countries.
- Make sure that the topic of the new Working Group is different from the areas of the two already running ESB Working Groups:
- Use the template to explain the motivation for setting up this Working Group, the specific objectives and activities, and how you will use the (financial) support of the ESB (maximum 2 pages).
- Proposals (in PDF format) should be submitted electronically to the Chair of the Webportal and Working Groups committee (scientific.chair@esbiomech.org).
- Deadline for submitting your proposal: April 30, 2026.
- Proposals will be evaluated based on scientific relevance, novelty, international collaboration, and the feasibility and impact of the proposed activities.
- Up to 2 new Working Groups will be funded in this round. Notification on acceptance/rejection: before the ESB General Assembly (July 11, 2026).
If you have questions or would like to have more information, please contact me via scientific.chair@esbiomech.org.
