ESBiomech Newsletter Autumn 2018
We are pleased to present the Autumn 2018 news updates from the European Society of Biomechanics. A lot has happened concerning the Biomechanics community during the last six months and the most important things are summarized in this newsletter. All members are invited to actively contribute information to this newsletter and to the ESB website in general. Let me know of anything of general interest, scientific articles, advertisements, upcoming meetings or particular items of discussion.

From the President
As many of you know I was appointed to the ESB presidency at the World Congress of Biomechanics in Dublin this July. It was a great honour to take this position. Mainly, because I am the first Spanish ESB president, second womanfemale (after Gwen Reilly) and it took place after the first ESB meeting held in Spain (Seville 2017).
Maria Angeles Pérez Ansón, ESB president
Remembering Christopher Rae Jacobs 1965-2018
At the World Congress of Biomechanics in Dublin we mourned the loss of Professor Christopher Jacobs who passed away just a few days before the congress on 1st July 2018. He was born in 1965 and this year should have been a great time for both his career and his family life. Sadly, he lost his life due to cancer a few days before his baby girl was born – Rae Christina Jacobs. Many words have been said about Chris at the World congress, and since then, within the many scientific communities of which he was a part. Here we would like to highlight his special relationship with the European Society of Biomechanics.
Gwendolen Reilly ESB president 2014-2016.

ESB Education and Student News
Student’s corner
Since the WCB held in Dublin in July 2018 Enrico Dall’Ara has been appointed the new chair of the Education and student committee.
We decided to extend the committee also to postdocs in order to better cover the activities of the committee, which will also help the dissemination of news in the social network platforms of the ESB. It was great to see a lot of interest from younger members of the society to join the student committee.
Membership News
The ESB membership is continuously growing, and despite the fact that registration fees for the World Congress of Biomechanics in Dublin could not include new ESB membership, total membership has increased since Spring 2018. Now, our society counts with 1345 members!
Treasurer’s Report
The financial report for 2017 was approved by the Financial Auditors, Monique Donkerwolcke and Paulo Fernandes, in April 2018. It was presented by the former Treasurer, Luca Cristofolini, at the General Assembly in Dublin. He also presented the projections for 2018. A negative balance of 2’500 Euro is foreseen, which constitutes 6% of the total expected expenses for 2018. The report and the projections were approved by the General Assembly. Jérôme Noailly
