Marlène Mengoni is an Associate Professor within the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering at the University of Leeds (UK). She gained an MSc in Engineering (2005) and a PhD in biomechanics (2012) from the Université the Liège (BE). During her PhD she also visited the Institute for Biomechanics at ETH Zurich (CH). She joined the University of Leeds as a Research Fellow (2013), then Academic Fellow (2015), Lecturer (2019) and Associate Professor (2022). She visited the Broom’s lab at the chemical and materials engineering department of University Auckland (NZ) in 2014.

Her research interests lie in the computational modelling of natural joints and their diseases, with a particular focus on the sources of variations affecting function, in particular for preclinical testing of early stages interventions. She has published 50 peer-reviewed contributions in journals, included invited contribution, and presented at over 150 national or international conferences. Her team is funded primarily by UK research councils; she currently holds an EPSRC Open Fellowship.

She has been a member of the ESB since 2011 and was elected to the council in 2022 (first role as Diversity, Inclusion and Membership committee chair – 2022-24).
