The European Alliance of Medical and Biological Engineering and Science (EAMBES) has continued it actions with the EU parliament and EU legislation. It has expressed its position on the medical device directive (MDD) and has put forward statements on the position of Biomedical Engineering in Europe to various consultations calls from EU.

In view of the Stop Vivisection Campaign, public opinion to ban animal experimentation gained momentum and resulted in a hearing with the European Parliament on May 11, 2015. Although it seems unlikely that the European Commission repeals or alters the current Directive on Animal Testing, the campaign may make headway in altering future policies. In view of these developments, EAMBES, in joint effort with the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) and the Virtual Physiological Human Institute (VPH Institute), has put forward a joint letter to reflect the position of a coalition of scientists on this topic.

Comments and suggestions on EAMBES’ activities are welcomed and can be sent to Ms Eve Costa, the Manager at EAMBES, or to Harry van Lenthe, the ESB representative in EAMBES.
