Dear ESB Members,
As it has been announced, there will be no standalone ESB Congress next year; instead, we will conduct our activities as part of the World Congress of Biomechanics (WCB) 2026 in Vancouver. This includes the ESB Awards for 2026.
The following awards can be submitted as usual (see https://esbiomech.org/esb-awards/ for details):
1. Best Doctoral Thesis Award: Submission, deadline 31th January 2026.
2. Mobility Award: Deadline 4th May 2026.
3. The ESB congress participation inclusion fund: Deadline 2nd May 2026.
4. ESB Poster Award: If you submit an abstract to WCB 2026, it will automatically be taken into consideration for this award, deadline (WCB 2026 submission) 5th December 2025.
The Stephan M. Perren Research Award is planned for ESB 2027, further info will follow in future newsletters and on the website.
For the following awards, it is not possible to combine the award submissions with the WCB abstract submission system. Therefore, we have created a dedicated submission system for the 2026 ESB awards. This includes:

6. ESB Student Awards
7. ESB Travel Awards
8. ESB Diversity Award
In addition to the regular awards, there are also twenty WCB 2026 registration fee waivers available for ESB student members wishing to attend the WCB. The guidelines are the same as for the ESB Travel Award. This award is denoted as:

The awards 5-9 must be submitted through the ESB award submission system. Please read our award regulations and submission guidelines and the description for each award in the submission system carefully. Incomplete submissions will not be considered!
As a general rule, these awards cannot be combined, i.e., you can only apply for one award. If you submit multiple awards, the lowest value award will be considered.
As stated in our award regulations, participation in the WCB 2026 is required for award numbers 3-9. For those, it is required that you submit an abstract first to WCB 2026 using the dedicated WCB submission system before applying for one an ESB award. The submission deadline for WCB 2026 submissions is December 5, 2025!
After completing the WCB submission, you can submit your corresponding award application in the ESB award submission system. Please follow the WCB Abstract guidelines and ensure the abstract fits on one page in PDF format. The deadline for submitting your documentation for ESB awards numbers 5-9 is January 31, 2026!
IMPORTANT: When registering for WCB 2026, please be sure to indicate that you are an ESB member (can be specified in the WCB submission system). This is important for the Society as we receive financial support for each ESB participant. Also, if you are planning to join us at WCB 2026 we recommend making hotel reservations as soon as possible, as there is limited availability.
