Spanish chapter
The Spanish National Chapter closed its fourth Meeting, which was held in Valencia on 21st November, organized by the LabHuman group. On the day before, 20th November, different courses took place. More information can be found in the Meeting web page (http://capituloesb.labhuman.com/).
The meeting’s main objectives were: to put in touch professionals with researchers in the field of biomechanics, to enhance collaborations between universities, hospitals and companies and also to encourage dissemination and promotion of studies in this field throughout Spain.
There were two types of awards, as in previous meetings: Scientific and Clinical-Technological transfer categories. The Scientific award recognized the quality and novelty in the scientific field, focusing on the methodology, hypothesis, multidisciplinarity, etc. The Clinical-Technological award recognized the potential of works in the knowledge transfer and in providing answers to the market or clinical demands.
Thanks to a recent collaboration agreement signed between the Spanish Chapter and the Sociedad Española de Ingeniería Biomédica, awarded abstracts were invited to be presented at the annual congress of this society. These invited presentations took place during a special session on biomechanics, organized by the Spanish Chapter. This session included two keynote lectures from Spanish ESB members. The awarded works were:
- Esther Comellas “Ogden parameter optimization for finite element modelling of cervical ligaments”
- Themis Toumanidou “Simulating the interaction between muscle activation and condition-dependent intervertebral disc multiphysics in patients with low back pain”
- Martínez-Martínez “A new methodology to obtain the biomechanical behavior of the human liver”
- Mónica Remacha “Predicción personalizada del riesgo de fractura del femur proximal humano”
The attendees to the last year´s meeting of the Chapter were informed about Seville´s candidature to organize ESB2017, which they all enthusiastically supported.
At the General Assembly, the Executive Committee of the Spanish National Chapter announced that the V Meeting of the Spanish National Chapter would take place in Madrid in November 2015.
