News from the ESB Italian Chapter
The main event of the Chapter in this first half of 2014 was the Annual Meeting, held on 27 June in Pavia. The meeting was connected to the national conference of bioengineering GNB conference, one reference event for bioengineers in Italy.
The ESB-ITA meeting was a great success registering more than 60 attendees; in fact, this result doubles the maximum number of attendees registered in the previous editions. The meeting was also significant from a scientific point of view: nine interesting presentations, covering the wide range of biomechanics, have been discussed. The selection of the oral presentations, performed by the ExBO, has promoted the participation of young researchers.
Moreover, an ESB-ITA award sponsored by Simulia Italy (Dassault Systemes) has been given to Eng. L. La Barbera and colleagues for the study entitled: Preclinical evaluation of posterior spinal fixators: a parametric FEA on international standards.

Summary of the 2nd Meeting of the Spanish Chapter of the ESB
The Spanish National Chapter will celebrate its next meeting in Valencia 21st November 2014, organized by LabHuman group. On the day before, 20th November, different courses will take place. More information can be found in the Meeting webpage.
The meeting’s main mission is to put in touch professionals and researchers in the field of biomechanics, to enhance collaboration between universities, hospitals and companies and also to encourage dissemination and promotion of studies in this field throughout Spain.
There will be two types of awards as in previous meetings: Scientific and Clinical-Technological transfer categories. The Scientific award will recognize the quality and novelty in the scientific field, focusing on the methodology, hypothesis, multidisciplinarity, etc. The Clinical-Technological award will recognize the potential of works in the knowledge transfer and in providing answers to the market or clinical demands.
Thanks to a recent collaboration agreement signed between the Spanish Chapter and the Sociedad Española de Ingeniería Biomédica, nominated abstracts will be invited to be presented at the annual congress of this society. These invited presentations will take place during a special session in biomechanics, organized by the Spanish Chapter. This session will also include two keynote lectures from Spanish ESB members.
The attendees to the last year´s meeting of the Chapter were informed about Seville´s candidature to organize ESB2017, which they all enthusiastically supported. This year, they will be informed about the winning of the competition, in order to sound out their opinion on different aspects of the organization of ESB2017.
