Vertebral finite element models validation using digital image correlation technique by Chiara Garavelli, University of Bologna.
Non-contact optical full-field measurement techniques, such as Digital Image Correlation (DIC), could be used to perform a point-to-point validation of vertebral finite element models (FEM). Values in terms of displacements registered by DIC at each correlated point are interpolated to the location of FEM nodes. Measured data are then locally compared to the simulated displacements. A presso-flexion test was used to perform the initial tests.
