Multi-layered silk-based vascular device by Luca D’Andrea, Politecnico di Milano.
The image shows the wall of a silk-based vascular graft device. The continuous internal layer is electrospun silk fibroin whereas the outer layer is knitted silk fibroin. The characteristic diameter of the knitted fibers is hundreds of microns. The image has been obtained through confocal laser microscopy. The colours represent the height map of the surface.
