Message from the President

It is both a pleasure and an honour for me to write this note to you, the ESB members, as the society’s president. I am profoundly aware of the substantial contributions, the reputations and especially the eloquence of my predecessors.  I have been active in the ESB for nearly two decades now, and yet a part of me still feels very much like the wide-eyed and enthusiastic young PhD student who was introduced to the society in Toulouse. I have observed over those years the incredible way in which the research community and the underlying inquisitive nature of science breaks down barriers and bridges generations, through open communication and a shared desire to discover, which is probably why the time flies.

Report on the ESB2016 in Lyon

The 22nd Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics took place from 10th to 13th July 2016 at the Cité des Congrès in Lyon, France. The meeting was organized by the European Society of Biomechanics, the Société de Biomécanique, (an international society which organizes a congress every year gathering delegates mostly from French speaking countries including Belgium, Canada, France and Switzerland), and by the Université de Lyon, IFSTTAR, Mines Saint-Etienne and the Université Grenoble Alpes. This year the congress was an opportunity to celebrate the 40th Anniversaries of both the European Society of Biomechanics and of the Société de Biomécanique.

Treasurer’s report

The membership status was updated for all those ESB members who attended the Congress in Lyon (their membership is therefore automatically paid until the end of 2017).  In the next months we will be launching the campaign for the renewal of society membership for everybody else who did not attend the yearly congress (in this case, payment needs to be made through the ESB web portal).
