Guidelines

The European Society of Biomechanics (ESB) invites you to electronically submit an abstract for presentation at the ESB2020 Congress in Milan, Italy. We encourage you to submit your latest research so we can capture and discuss the science at the forefront of Biomechanics in a mix of oral and poster presentations. We are looking forward to receiving the most exiting work from scientists across all career stages and particularly welcome the submission of the outstanding research performed by our students, which can also be considered for the prestigious ESB student award. Following the positive experience of the extended format introduced at last ESB congresses, established leaders in their domain are invited to submit an abstract for a “Perspective Talk”. This format allows senior researchers to give an overview or highlight key research on a congress topic.

NEW!!! Two deadlines for Perspective Talks are available: 30 November 2019 and 31 January 2020. Accepted Perspective Talks submitted by 30 November will be announced before the regular abstract deadline (31st January 2020).

To submit a ‘Perspective Talk’:

Presentation types:

Perspective talk: Senior researchers are invited to submit perspective talks in their area of research. Perspective talks will open each parallel session and should provide an overview of and cover their group’s latest research in a specific area. The talk must be given by the senior researcher (group leader / Principal Investigator) involved in the work. The objective is to increase intergenerational networking and to give young scientists the opportunity to learn from those with more experience. The format has in the past included presentations by two speakers, for example one clinician and one biomechanician.

Podium presentation: Your abstract will be considered for a podium presentation in competition with other submissions.

If the abstract is not deemed suitable for podium presentation, it will automatically be considered for poster presentation.

Please note that at least one author must register in full to attend and present the abstract at the Congress and that an author must not present more than one oral presentation and one poster presentation.

Podium presentation with ESB Student Awards: Open to any student member of the ESB in good standing. Four finalists will be selected to present a 15 minute podium presentation at a special student award session. All other submissions will be considered in the standard review process for either a podium or poster presentation. Candidates are eligible to apply if they have applied for ESB membership before the deadline of the awards submissions (31st January).
For the application to be complete both the abstract itself and a second, separate PDF document must be uploaded. The second PDF must include the applicant’s CV and a statement by the student’s supervisor confirming that the applicant is a doctoral student. Applicants should carefully check eligibility criteria and required documentation on the Society webpage.

Podium presentation with ESB Travel Awards: Open to young members of the ESB in good standing, who are the first author of the abstract. Each member can only be awarded a travel award once. Candidates are eligible to apply if they have applied for ESB membership before the deadline of the awards submissions (31st January).
