The 2020 ESB conference is organized and hosted by the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering ‘Giulio Natta’ and the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of Politecnico di Milano in conjunction with the Italian Chapter of the ESB.
Politecnico di Milano is one of the most outstanding technical universities in Europe, ranked 1st in Italy. Established in 1863, it is the largest school of Architecture, Design and Engineering in Italy, with two main campuses located in Milan, the heart of fashion and design industries and the venue of Expo 2015, and five more campuses around the Lombardy region.
Joint research and teaching is a priority commitment that allows Politecnico di Milano to achieve high quality results also at the international level and to develop a fruitful relationship with business and the productive world by means of experimental research and technological transfer. Politecnico takes part in several research and training projects and collaborates with the most qualified European universities, together with national and international companies and Institutions.
Politecnico di Milano has been the first Italian University to invest in Biomedical Engineering and to offer a dedicated degree course since 1996. Biomechanics at Politecnico di Milano has grown constantly and the first studies and courses date back to the beginning of the Seventies. Today, Politecnico di Milano hosts the largest community of Biomechanicists in Italy, in the two organising Departments.
The two organising Departments are also running a joint Doctorate course in Bioengineering, that enrols, at the moment, around 60 PhD students.
The biomechanical activities are based in research laboratories where in vitro and in silico experiments are carried out. The link with research hospitals in the Milan area is also very active.
The growth rate of scientific publications in the field of Biomechanics by the scientists of Politecnico di Milano is at top level. The journal where we published most is the Journal of Biomechanics with more than 90 papers.
The Italian Chapter of the European Society of Biomechanics was established in 2011 and since then it has been very active in promoting Biomechanics in Italy. It was the first National Chapter within ESB and it is a community of researchers in continuous growth and strengthening. Nowadays, ESB-ITA comprises more than 180 members. It is a young community, characterized by a strong trans-national character, as proved by the fact that it includes many members working abroad: although they work in foreign Institutions, they chose to keep actively participating in the Italian Chapter. The interdisciplinary and complementary composition of ESB-ITA opened the door to the organization of a number of activities, such as: Annual meeting, ESB-ITA Thematic Symposia, Awards and Annual Newsletters.
Prospective authors are encouraged to submit their latest research for capturing and discussing the science at the forefront of biomechanics in a mix of oral and poster presentations.
Abstracts have to be submitted online through the congress website by January 31, 2020.
We are delighted to host the 2020 ESB Congress, and we cordially welcome you in Milano!
