GA ballot results, survey on Perspective Talks and more

Dear Subscriber,

We are pleased to present the August’15 news updates from the European Society of Biomechanics. All members are invited to contribute information of general interest, scientific articles, advertisements or particular items of discussion.

First of all, the ESB council would like to thank all our members who attended the 21st Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics. It was a pleasure to meet all of you.

Result of the General Assembly ballot on on-line Electronic voting

Thank you to all members who attended the General Assembly at the ESB congress in Prague. As detailed in previous mailings we took a vote on whether to adjust the by-law concerning election of council members such that it would enable on-line electronic voting. The General Assembly voted FOR the proposal, there were 64 votes indicating YES to the by-law change, 11 votes indicating NO and 3 abstentions. Therefore, we intend to implement electronic voting for the next council election. The call for nominations will come in Spring 2016.

We want to know your opinion – survey on Perspective Talks

Perspective Talks were run for the first time at the recent ESB meeting in Prague and were introduced with the intention of providing an overview on a cutting edge, coherent body of research including remaining challenges, bearing in mind the interdisciplinary nature of the ESB audience. To better understand how this new element was perceived by our membership and to learn how we might further develop this feature, please fill in this short questionnaire to collect your feedback on this matter.

ESB membership as part of attendance at the ESB Congress in Prague

If you attended the 21st European Society of Biomechanics Congress in Prague your membership fee has already been paid for 2016 as part of your congress fee. This will entitle you to also have the membership paid by the registration fee when you register for the 22nd Congress in Lyon, France.  You may not be aware that those delegates of the ESB congress that are not yet a member can now become a member at no additional fee!! So please alert your group members and colleagues to apply for membership.

Remind your colleague that they ARE NOT automatically a member just because they attended the congress: they must make a specific application at: https://esbiomech.org/esb-membership-benefits/online-application-form/

This offer will EXPIRE in 30th SEPTEMBER. After that new applications will be processed as any applicant applying throughout the year, and be expected to pay the regular fee, if approved.

Call for Abstracts ESB Lyon 2016

Next Meeting of the Spanish Chapter

The 5th Meeting of the Spanish National Chapter will be held in Madrid from the 19th to the 20th of November 2015 at the School of Civil Engineering of the Technical University of Madrid. The meeting will gather the Spanish members of the ESB who will have the opportunity to present their research.

On the 19th November two courses devoted to the opensource programs Slicer3d (www.slicer.org) and Febio (www.febio.org) will be held. On the 20th November the new Council will be elected.

More information about the 5th Meeting of the ESB Spanish National Chapter is available here.

5th Meeting of the Italian Chapter

The 5th Meeting of the ESB Italian Chapter was held in Milan on June, 5th.  For the first time, the meeting was a stand-alone event, i.e. not in conjunction with any other congress. The meeting was a great success: more than 60 registered participants; 14 oral and 22 poster presentations; a Workshop by Materialise and the presentation of “The Living Heart Project” by Abaqus/Simulia Dassault Sistèmes. Moreover, the best oral (Giorgio Mattei) and best poster (Michele Marino) presentations were awarded, and the first edition of the student award “Premi di Laurea ESB-ITA 2015” for master thesis in biomechanics was presented.

The executive board was renewed, confirming the former members Michele Conti and Diego Gallo, and electing Michele Marino as new president of the chapter (Luca Cristofolini, was confirmed in the ExBo as he serves in the Council of the ESB). The executive board thanks Federica Boschetti, outgoing member, who decided not to run for re-election, but whose contribution in these years has been really valuable.

The meeting gave the chance to discuss about the state of the Italian Chapter and to promote future initiatives. Among these, the new twitter account @esb_ita is highlighted. Follow us!
